Bistro Inspired
The homeowner wanted us to create a space that was inviting and unique with design interest. This was to be inspired by a "French Bistro" meets speakeasy vibe that flows through the 1920s home. They needed the space to look great for entertaining but be durable and easy to function in. Plenty of countertop space and storage areas were a must. As was the need for a separate area to create smoothies on a regular basis.
The room is in the center of the home and has no windows, only doors and wider openings, of which there were many. We designed the island to face out into the sunroom to provide a view to the backyard. The powder room was relocated so we could shift that door and create enough wall length for the range. The older home has a brick chimney projecting into the room. We decided to expose the brick for character and to create a partially "false" pantry on the right side to balance the refrigerator on the left. Space under the stairs created a small baking nook with oven.
The classic series Sub Zero refrigerator was selected for it's shorter height, quality, and it's overall great fit and finish with custom panels. The Sub Zero refrigerator and freezer drawers fit nicely into the "smoothie station" creating a furniture look with the panels while providing the right amount of storage for fruits, veggies and ice. The Wolf range was selected for quality and ease of use. The burner adjustability is great as is the ability to slide pans from grill to grill. The Wolf hood vent baffles are easy to clean and it provides great lighting and ventilation. We designed a fabulous custom hood to compliment the gas range.
This kitchen is all about the luxurious feel and custom details! Quality custom cabinets feature four different finishes, not including the hammered metal fusion paint used at the "smoothie station" doors. Metallics are found throughout the space; from the bronze toned tiles to the brass "studs" on back of the island. The hardware varies from glass to white bronze and the light fixtures brass and silver tones. The polished herringbone wood floors adds elegance. The appliances are a crucial part in completing any look in a kitchen. Here the paneled refrigeration helped us to keep the 1920s vibe while the Wolf gas range and hood become the centerpiece.
