Whimsical Portsmouth Condo

This downtown Portsmouth condo is home to a creative, art loving, couple. They wished for a fun yet functional kitchen that blends with their colorful art filled home.  We entered the project with some limitations due to the location but were determined to meet their wants and needs for the space.

Color was a must! We selected a cheery light yellow paint for a grouping of the base cabinetry. A soft celadon green was used at the peninsula. The wall cabinetry and tall cabinets are white, to allow the eye to wander to the colorful walls and artwork in the space.  Quartz countertops provide the look of marble but are more practical in a well-used kitchen. The green tile back splash has a soft water color effect. A small unique cabinet at the back of the peninsula has custom turned legs and glass knobs for added whimsy. Onion shaped pendent lights and artwork finish the playful space.

The previous space included a pantry that doubled as a utility closet to house the hot water tank. This tank could not be moved, yet we wished to open up the space to make it more functional. We concealed the tank inside a tall cabinet and added more tall cabinets for storage. One includes a Lumens “magic reach” system so as not to waste space in the corner. In this small kitchen every inch counts. There are roll outs for dog food storage, added cabinets on the back of the peninsula and a second Lumens system in the base cabinets.

In a whimsical Portsmouth condo, a creative couple's colorful art-filled home inspired a fun and functional kitchen design. Soft yellow and green cabinetry, white accents, quartz countertops, and unique details create a playful and practical space that maximizes every inch.
