Rustic with European Charm

This young, active family with small children and large dogs wanted a kitchen for their new lake house that would be very durable and functional while also meeting their aesthetic wishes. They wanted a look that was fitting for their lodge-style home but with touches of old world European charm. It must also be packed with storage solutions and be designed to handle the traffic of many guests.

We used inset cabinetry in rustic natural oak for durability and that European countryside feel. Quartzite countertops and natural bronze hardware add character and will age with patina over time. The large painted hood boasts rustic alder trim and corbels that frame the charming patterned tile. The back side of the island is wrapped in reeded wood while the front offers the surprise of blue stained cabinetry on walnut wood.

The kitchen is a dream to work within. The large Galley sink workstation offers vast area for prep and clean-up. To the left is a countertop compost and root storage drawers. The paneled 42” subzero and island beverage refrigerator offer plenty of cold storage. A magic corner cabinet, pan/lid storage cabinet and spice drawer create a place for everything needed left and right of the induction cooktop. Just off the main kitchen is a pantry with a dog station and full height cabinet storage for vacuum, mop, and cleaning supplies. The pantry drawers are full of easy-to-reach snacks for the kids. The large cremone bolts add a fun touch.

With a large stone fireplace and lake views in the adjoining room, this space will be enjoyed by many. The kitchen design will continue to meet the clients’ needs for years to come!
