ENGLISH FLAIR - OUR UNIQUE KITCHEN DESIGN

When the time came to remodel this older New England home the owner knew he wanted a rich masculine feel that he found in a private lounge in London. The space was challenged with low ceilings and lack of character. He wanted a sophisticated kitchen in which to cook and entertain friends. We would need to find ways to open up the room and add materials that provide warmth and interesting atmosphere.

A mix of rich cabinet materials were selected. Quarter sawn oak, mink stained walnut and navy blue paint create a lux ambiance. The linen white painted upper cabinets prevent the ceiling from feeling lower. Mixes of opulent metals are found throughout. The striking custom hood was crafted with a burnished nickel finish featuring antique satin gold accents. Bronze, white bronze, as well as nickel are used in various hardware pieces. A custom handle plate was designed for the refrigerator panel. Blackened metal doors are used at the wet bar. Quartz countertops are easy to maintain and simple enough to compliment the patterned backspash tile.  Other details include a curved corner cabinet, a furniture inspired piece at the island with antique Chestnut countertop as well as the smoked mirror at the bar.

We gained extra square footage by pushing a wall back and exposing the adjacent brick chimney. The brick also created texture. Shifting windows down gave us a longer run of wall with which to work. This also gave us room to add larger windows over the sink allowing more light into the space. Storage solutions including a “magic corner” pull-out, an armoire pantry piece, and an abundance of drawers so there is a place for everything. The addition of the wet bar provides storage as well as additional refrigeration in the Sub-Zero drawers.

For this New England home remodel, the owner sought a London lounge-inspired, rich masculine vibe. Overcoming low ceilings, a sophisticated kitchen emerged with rich cabinet materials, quartz countertops, opulent metals, and smart design solutions for warmth, luxury, and functionality.
