English Flare

The owner of this older New England home, located in the greater Boston area, knew he wanted a unique kitchen remodel. He wished for a custom kitchen with a rich masculine feel that he found in private lounges in London. He wanted a sophisticated new kitchen in which to cook and entertain friends. The centerpiece would be this fabulous hood over a Wolf range. The striking custom hood was crafted with a burnished nickel finish featuring antique satin gold accents.he owners of this unique custom kitchen wished to bring in elements experienced while traveling to British pubs and French cafés, giving the space “Old World Charm.”  Satisfying the clients’ needs in this small space proved to be an exciting design challenge. The solution included flipping the location of the previous kitchen and dining area offering longer walls and more overall square footage in the kitchen area. We off centered the door to allow for more usable kitchen space on one side. Removing a portion of an existing wall allowed room for the wanted kitchen island.

Quality fully custom cabinets were a must for this project.  Kountry Kraft Cabinetry, a custom cabinet manufacturer from Pennsylvania, was selected to craft these beautiful inset cabinets. They feature plywood sides, full undermount drawer glides with soft close, adjustable hinges, and dovetailed walnut drawer boxes.

The “Old World Charm” feel was achieved by using a number of rich materials. Four custom cabinetry finishes were created for the kitchen. The first of these custom finishes is a rustic cherry with a warm mushroom stain and rub-through. Quarter sawn oak is used with a deep walnut stain as well as a gray stain on quarter sawn oak with white glazing. A light gray paint was used on the wall cabinetry. The countertops are elegant Quartzite with green and blue undertones. The kitchen island countertop is antique chestnut, giving the piece a sense of natural weathering. A brushed and chiseled stone tile floor adds warmth and character. An assortment of bronze hardware pieces, including classic cremone bolts complete this unique kitchen.

A mix of rich custom kitchen cabinets were created in quarter sawn oak, mink stained walnut and navy blue paint provide a lux ambiance. The linen white painted upper cabinets prevent the ceiling from feeling lower. Quartz countertops are easy to maintain and simple enough to compliment the patterned backspash tile. Another custom detail is the curved corner wall cabinet.

The large kitchen island is a painted navy blue. An oak inspired piece at the island adds English flare with antique Chestnut countertop and white bronze pulls.

Flush mounted Sub-zero and Wolf appliances are a must in a high-end kitchen. The mink stained walnut cabinetry makes an impressive statement. Mixes of opulent metals are found throughout. Bronze, white bronze, as well as nickel are used in various hardware pieces.

The wet bar fits nicely next to a rustic white washed brink chimney relieved during the kitchen renovation. Dark gunmetal doors as well as a smoked mirror backsplash add a special touch. Sub-zero drawers concealed by custom panels provide additional beverage storage.

A custom handle plate was designed for the refrigerator panel. Using metallic Metal Fusion paint we are able to create one-of-a-kind pieces like this one.
